“The gods sell everything at the right price”, said an old poet. He should have added that they sell the best at the most reasonable price.
Everything that is truly essential can be bought with very little money, only the superfluous is sold at an excessive price. Everything that is really beautiful is not for sale at all, but is presented as a gift by the immortals.
We can see the sun rise and set, clouds wandering in the sky, forests and pastures, the marvellous sea, all this without spending a penny.
Birds sing for nothing, we can gather wild flowers as we go on our way. There is no entrance fee for the starlit theatre of night. The poor sleep better than the rich. Simple food often has a richer flavour than that of the Ritz.
Contentment and peace of heart flourish more in a small home in the country than in a luxurious building in the city. A few friends, a few books, very few, and a dog is all you need around you, as long as you have yourselves.
But you must live in the country….
