The Colle della Selva, being immersed in the territory of the Majella National Park, is an ideal starting point for mountain lovers who find, in these areas, many activities that can be done at any time of the year.

For winter sports lovers (skiing, snowboarding) there are five ski resorts in the Park area; the most impressive is definitely Passolanciano-Maielletta, less than 20km away, where it is possible, on sunny days, to ski with a view directly on the Adriatic Sea!

In the same areas, it is possible, during the summer months, to make long and fascinating hiking, walking, mountain biking or horseback riding; through the many paths of the Park, you can immerse yourself in the high mountain forests and admire the animals that populate them: chamois, roe deer, wolves, deer, wild cats, otters, ...

For birdwatching lovers, you can observe, by going to the highest peaks, beautiful specimens, among others, of real eagle, pilgrim falcon, kestrel, goshawk and sparrow.

Even those who loves to walk between villages and historical centers, art and history enthusiasts, in search of quaint and timeless places, is in the right place; in fact there are some of the most beautiful villages in Italy: Abbateggio, Caramanico Terme, Guardiagrele, Pacentro, Pescocostanzo and Pretoro. In these and other centers, such as Sulmona and Corfinio, there are churches and abbeys, castles and strongholds, hermitages and archaeological sites, witnessing the millennial presence of man in these areas.

Finally, you can indulge in a vacation to discover the typical and true Abruzzo cuisine; a simple, but full of flavors and characteristic smells. Only here you will find authentic handmade arrosticini, spaghetti alla chitarra, Pecorino cheese from Abruzzo and many other products. All this, of course, appreciating a good glass of Montepulciano or Trebbiano d'Abruzzo!

Abruzzo is a land rich in history, art, nature and good food; come and visit us... we are waiting for you at the Colle della Selva!

We are about two kilometers from the center of Abbateggio, a characteristic rural village of Majella National Park, in Abruzzo, Europe's green region. We are in a beautiful panoramic position, with a horizon ranging from Majella to Morrone, from the peaks of the Gran Sasso to the sea.

At the center of a property of 10 hectares of fields and oak forests and 500 meters of altitude at the foot of the Majella, there are two characteristic stone farmhouses, one dating back to the late 800's and the other to the early 900's, where our guests will be welcomed.

Large outdoor spaces are at your disposal for rest, walking and relaxation. We will be happy to advise you on some suggestive points for reading and meditation. Other privileged places allow you to watch the starry sky during the night, lying on a lawn, far from sources of light pollution and listening to the sounds of nature.

You will be guided to discover the wonders of the surrounding woods and assisted in the recognition of the numerous tree species present: from cyclamen in roverelle to numerous varieties of wild orchids. Also, with a pinch of luck, you could encounter wild animals in freedom like deer, roe deer, owls and squirrels. In the high mountains, there are many species of birds including the real eagle, the pilgrim falcon and the owl.

Come and immerse yourself in the uncontaminated nature in this corner of earthly paradise... we are waiting for you!

Abbateggio is located on the north slopes of the Majella, along the road that brings from the Scafa highway exit to the renowned thermal resort of Caramanico Terme. Included in the list of i Borghi più belli d'Italia, the town of Abbateggio is located in an ideal panoramic position with a magnificent view ranging from the massive Gran Sasso to the Adriatic Sea.

The municipal territory extends for about 16 sq. Km between the quotas of 210 and 1200 meters above sea level, within the Majella National Park; the landscape is therefore very varied.

Those who reach us in this unique location have a wide choice on what to visit in Abbateggio and its surroundings. For lovers of religious tourism there are numerous facilities to visit, among them: the churches of San Lorenzo Martire, Madonna dell'Elcina and Madonna del Carmine in Abbateggio, the church of Santi Valentino and Damiano in the nearby valley of San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore, the Abbey of Santo Spirito at Majella and the hermitage of San Bartolomeo, located in Roccamorice. There are also many examples of civil architecture in the area, such as the Baron of Genoa Castle, not far from Salle and San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore, already belonging to the Farnese family.

Lovers of natural beauties, on the other hand, can explore the Valle Giumentina, a place of important paleontological finds that testify the presence of man since the Paleolithic, with its characteristic dry stone tholos constructions. Or they will be able to go to the spectacular Orta Valley, particularly for the deeply embedded geological shape and its white rocks, among which the waters of the river rush. Or immerse yourself in the wonderful frame of the Lavino River Fluvial Park, with its sulfur-water turquoise lakes and a 17th-century mill.

In short, these wonderful places only wait for you ... and we will be happy to host you at Colle della Selva during your holiday in Abruzzo!
